ELECTRICAL INSECT LIGHT TRAP

INTRODUCTION AND USER GUIDE

Mushroom flies generally develop resistance to many groups of insecticides, therefore, it is very hard to control them. Many of the insecticide-treated flies do not die but loss flying capability. However, they continue to live on the surface of compost or casing soil, and females can go on egg-laying activity, resulting in many newly hatched larvae. Both the hatching larvae are fed by eating the mycelia and the used chemical insecticides, many of which have not be registered for mushroom flies, have a mycotoxic activity against the mycelia of cultivated mushrooms. So, mushroom yield enormously decreases during the harvest times. Since such insecticides decrease mushroom yield and quantity, they should not be used during the mushroom cultivation.

No insecticides should not be used in mushroom production rooms, where ecosav-M1 has already been used, because the flies not died but knock down cannot fly and not trapped by ecosav-M1.

GENERAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

Only use the device for its intended use.

Plug the device only into the suitable plug socket. Please check whether the voltage of the plug socket is appropriate with the specified voltage or not. In case an external mains supply is used (uninterruptible power supply or inverter etc.), pay attention to the correct polarity and voltage. Do not open the housing top (ballast box made from ABS), in which there are transformer and other electronic circuits. Incorrect repairs pose a great risk to the user. It also terminates the warranty period.

In case the supply cable of the trap is damaged, do not operate it for a long time and ensure the trap to be repaired by the authorized service as soon as possible. Please check the supply cable regularly to avoid damage. Please take it to our customer service department or call an authorized person from our technical service. If you will not use the trap for a long time, plug it out.

Do not expose the trap to rain or direct water to prevent it from electric shock and short circuits. For this reason, do not use the trap close to water (for instance, close to a fogging sprinkle or irrigation system).

Definition of symbols on the trap are presented below.

The lightning symbol alerts the user regarding the parts inside the trap that has dangerous high voltage levels.

The exclamation symbol notifies the user of important operating or maintenance instructions in the attached document.

FUNCTIONAL PROPERTIES

1.      The trap is an eco-friendly device in controlling mushroom flies, as an alternative to synthetic chemical insecticides. The trap has not any side effect on humans and other organisms. It is non-toxic, smokeless, clean, and suitable for human and environmental health.

2.    The trap was developed under the consultancy of Prof. Dr. Fedai ERLER (Entomologist and Head of Plant Protection Department of Akdeniz University, Antalya, Turkey, and taken its current form as a result of R&D studies supported by KOSGEB and Akdeniz University Techno-Park.

3.      The trap is highly effective against mushroom flies. It destroys the mushroom flies coming to the electric discharge line with the static electric shock.

4.      The electrical circuit in the trap provides high effective voltage with low power consumption. During the operation, mean power consumption is approximately 30 W/h and the average monthly energy consumption by operating 24 hours is about 21 kW.

SUGGESTIONS FOR THE MOST EFFECTIVE USE

1.      The trap is suitable for use in mushroom production facilities. It should not be used on wet ground, near a water source, and in unstable places such as chair top and bunk top, etc.

2.      The trap is effective against mushroom flies of all sizes (0.5-6 mm) in an area of 15 m2.

3.      The lamp of the trap is highly energy-efficient, elegant, and has effective color and light to catch flies. The lightning lamps of the mushroom production rooms should be turned off in case there is no person working in the room. Alternative light sources in the room will directly affect the performance of the trap because they may attract fly adults.

4.      It is important to pay attention to hang the traps in the right places of the production room in accordance with its instructions and to operate it in suitable environments to benefit from the trap at the maximum level. Furthermore, it is recommended that the traps should be cleaned weekly intervals because trapped died flies may negatively affect the trap performance.

5.      The traps should be in constant operation during the mushroom cultivation.

MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING

1.      Do not press, squeeze or separate the wire mesh while using the trap. Because the wire mesh is located precisely by being fitted from the edges to the lower tray and upper mounting apparatus.

2.       Clean died flies on mesh wires of the trap regularly (weekly intervals) by a vacuum cleaner or an air blowing compressor to increase the efficiency of the trap. If there are still died flies on the wires, clean the mesh wires using a soft and thin brush without applying pressure.

3.      Pull out the electrical plug and discharge the accumulated voltage in the circuit by touching the open end of the insulated rod to internal and external mesh wires with an insulated rod (screwdriver, control pen, etc.) before cleaning.

4.      The mesh wires on the trap should not come into contact with each other. Otherwise, the trap will lose its ability to kill mushroom flies.

5.      In case of the necessary of bulb replacement, first unplug the trap, then unmount the polyethylene collection container from the bottom of wire meshes by rotating the opening/closing clips. After the bulb is replaced, the trap is ready for use again as soon as the container mounted into its slot.

DANGEROUS SITUATIONS

1.    The trap should not be used in places with combustible, flammable, and explosive materials.
2.    The trap should be stored in a safe and dry place away from children when it is not in an operation.
3.    Do not touch the wire meshes with your fingers or without the uninsulated conductor while the trap is turning on/off.
4.    Do not attempt to repair the trap. Please always send/take it to the authorized service for repair.
5.    Never bend or fold the power cable. When it is damaged in any manner, do not use it without replacing new one.

PLACEMENT OF THE TRAPS

The traps should be hung 1-2 days before placing compost in mushroom production room for collecting adults of mushroom flies if available in the room.

They should be hung in accordance with their prospectus, which suggests 1 trap/15 m2. For a production room with an area of 60 m2, a total of 4 traps should be suspended at a height of 2 m at the four corners of room (1 at each corner).

If production room has an area of more than 60 m2, extra traps should be suspended in the middle of room at the same height.

The placement suggestions are shown in the schemes below.

First (1st) scheme: Application 1. Trap layout plan in the mushroom production rooms up to 60 m2.

Second (2nd) scheme: Application 2. Trap layout plan in the mushroom production room up to 120 m2

Third (3rd) scheme: Application 3. Trap layout plan in the mushroom production rooms where bunks are place next to the wall.

The turkish words in schemes are translated as:

Tuzak: Trap

Ranza: Bunk
